To make plain soya milk with this Soya Milk Maker, you do not need any more than the instructions in the User's Manual - add water and soaked soyabeans and press the START button! To make soya milk with your favorite flavor, just add the flavoring of your choice after the soya milk is made. I usually add a bit of sugar. Do not feel guilty about adding sugar because most likely you have added less than what is in commercial soya milk. You can also use sugar alternatives. Some people like to add a little salt. Vanilla flavor is also a favorite and is known to neutralize the "beany" taste pretty well. Some customers have reported that blending cold soya milk with banana is great.
How to make creamier (thicker) soya milk
Use 100 grams of soyabeans instead of 70 grams. You can check your User's Manual to confirm this. Adding between one and two tablespoons (1/16 to 1/8 cup) of rice or oats (oatmeal, oat bran, quick oats) to soaked soyabeans will make thicker soya milk. There are detailed recipes packaged with your Soya Joy Soya Milk Maker. Rice needs to be soaked for the same amount of time as soyabeans, but oatmeal or quick oats can be added without soaking.
Keep in mind that commercial, ready-to-use soya milk contains significant amounts of additives (such as starch and sugar) for consistency and taste - read the labels. One reason for making soya milk at home is to know and control the ingredients. Without those additives, your homemade, fresh soya milk may taste slightly different from commercial soya milk that's manufactured to have an extended shelf life.
- Soak one measure of dry soyabeans for 6 to 12 hours.
- Load and run soyamilk maker as per the directions that came with the machine.
- Cool the milk in the refrigerator till it is at least lukewarm.
- Add 1/4 tsp. of salt.
- Add 2 Tbs. of sugar.
- Add 3 Tbs. of Barley Malt.
- Add 1 Tbs. Of Vanilla flavoring.
Each batch yields approx. 1.25 Litters of soya milk. I typically make 2 batches at a time and store it in a plastic container in the refrigerator.
